My grandmother had never read this story before, but it immediately became one of her favorites. The family bonds and warm, pure, happy ending often left her teary eyed with joy. There is some brief talk early in the story of someone in the town who killed themselves, but it isn’t a central theme and the story doesn’t linger or dwell on it. A great introduction to one of America’s greatest writers.
